Records Management

 

Three years ago I had a telephone call that went something like this, ‘you probably don't remember me but you took my portrait 38 years ago. I don't suppose I could still order a print!' I did still have the negative. It took me about three minutes to locate it as one of 300,000 negatives. The client got her print. And she commissioned me for another portrait.  This is an extreme case and few photographers keep negatives that long. What is important is that your original images are stored in a safe and clean environment and that you have a very efficient filing and retrieval system.
