Ethics

Raising the standard of professional photographic practice in the community should be one of the primary aims of every professional photographer. Striving for higher standards affects two areas:

  • Photographic excellence
  • Professional integrity

Technical and artistic standards of photography in Australia are very high standing however integrity within the industry still leaves considerable room for improvement. Both the AIPP and the ACMP have codes of ethics to which they expect their members to adhere. The AIPP has a committee which deals with cases where ethics are breached. The system may not be perfect but it is a real attempt to lift the standard of photographic practice. I would urge you to join one of the professional bodies, learn from their seminars, profit from the contact with successful pros and actively participate in the organisation.
